The decision was taken on Tuesday in a virtual meeting, chaired by the head of state, João Lourenço, in his capacity as acting president of SADC.

Security challenges in the eastern region of DR Congo and the general elections in the country next December are topics to be addressed at this meeting of heads of state from this region.

Angola has been intervening as a mediator in the DR Congo pacification process, highlighting the tripartite summit last year, with Angola, Rwanda and DR Congo where what became known as the "Luanda Roadmap" was approved.

The document aims to create conditions for dialogue and political consultation, with a view to resolving the security crisis in the East of the country, normalization of political and diplomatic relations between DR Congo and Rwanda, immediate cessation of hostilities, creation of a Ad-Hoc Observation, to monitor compliance with agreements and withdrawal from positions occupied by the M23 rebel movement in Congolese territory, among other aspects.

This year, the National Assembly approved the sending of an Angolan contingent to support and maintain peace and guarantee security in the M23 cantonment areas, in the eastern region of DR Congo, made up of 450 soldiers from the Angolan Armed Forces.
