ZEE has 7500 hectares available waiting for investment

The announcement was made by Adriano Celso Borja, administrator of the Luanda-Bengo Special Economic Zone (ZEE), who made it known that the ZEE has a total of 7500 hectares available for the implementation of industries and that they are waiting for investment from businessmen from both country and abroad.

According to the administrator – cited by Jornal de Angola –, the available hectares are divided into approximately 4700 hectares intended for installing factories related to various sectors and 2800 hectares reserved for investments related to agro-industry.

Speaking on the sidelines of a visit by a delegation from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the official extended the invitation to businessmen from that country to invest in the ZEE, adding that foreign investment is always welcome.

As an example, Adriano Celso Borja reported that the economic zone has factories from 13 countries, notably Spain, Germany and Eritrea, hoping that the DRC will become the 14th country to invest in the ZEE.

"These countries are investing heavily in sustainable economic development, and we hope that the Democratic Republic of Congo will be the 14th country to also invest in the ZEE," he said, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

The ZEE administrator also mentioned that many of these factories export to the DRC. This is the case of Embravidro (dedicated to the production of glass bottles) which, according to Jornal de Angola, delivers around 4000 tons of bottles to the DRC.

At the time, the official said they were still "hopeful" about the presence of the aforementioned delegation. "We are hopeful about the presence of the Congolese delegation, a positive act because on their part there is a lot of interest in investing in technologies, the fishing industry and other sectors," he said, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

According to a note from ZEE, to which VerAngola had access, the DRC delegation's visit to ZEE took place this Tuesday, as part of the 2nd Economic Forum between Angola and DRC.

"The delegation was received by the Board of Directors of ZEE.EP, which also guided an internal itinerary, which included a visit to a factory located in the Economic Zone, namely Embalvidro, as well as the main infrastructure there", the note reads.

On the occasion, Jean Lucien Bussa Tongba, Minister of Foreign Trade of the DRC – who led the DRC delegation – highlighted that the visit to the glass factory allowed the realization of the potential that Angola offers in terms of local production. "After this visit we will inform our business class of what we saw, and certainly encourage them to invest in Angola", he said, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

"We are interconnected with more than two thousand kilometers of common border, so I also invite the Angolan business community to get to know the Congolese market," he added.

According to the ZEE note, the economic zone concerns the "largest infrastructured industrial hub in the country, and constitutes a potential source of products to be imported by the DRC, with some of the factories installed in the ZEE already exporting to that neighboring country, how it was possible to find out on the sidelines of the 1st Edition of the Forum between the two countries in the DRC".
