Construction begins on Agogo, the first FPSO in the world with a post-combustion carbon capture unit

Azule Energy has started construction of the FPSO Agogo, which will have a carbon capture and storage unit, to be installed in block 15/06 in Angola, being the first post-combustion carbon capture unit in the world to be installed on an FPSO.

According to a statement sent to VerAngola, the company Yinson Production will be responsible for the work.

"Azule Energy has started the construction of the FPSO Agogo, which will feature a Carbon Capture and Storage Unit (CCS), to be installed in block 15/06 offshore Angola. The construction of the installation is in charge of the company, Yinson Production, specialized in leasing FPSOs", the note reads.

The note also states that it is "the world's first post-combustion carbon capture unit installed on board an FPSO", having been "designed on a pilot scale and will be used as a demonstration unit in an offshore floating environment to assess readiness technique and obtain operational knowledge".

The aforementioned installation "should become a reference in the energy industry", significantly reducing the amount of CO2 that is released into the atmosphere, marking "an important step in the implementation of the future expansion of CCS technology for net zero FPSO projects".

Furthermore, the FPSO Agogo will also include "cutting-edge technology that will focus on reducing emissions, such as electrification, advanced automation and digitalization, a combined cycle power system, a water turbine generator, a coverage of the crude tanks and an integrated closed flare system", completes the statement.
