The initiative proposes the construction of a ring road linking the areas of Arimba, Eywa and the Centrality of Quilemba, with a view to alleviating the road pressure that these areas exert on road transport.
According to Angop, the project concerns a 37.3 kilometer line, a portion of which already exists and is operated by the Moçâmedes Railway (CFM), where the route departs from the Nangombe River station, passing through the Centrality of Quilemba, and ends at Poiares station, in a length of 28.8 kilometres.
Furthermore, advances Angop, the line also covers the Arimba station, passing through Eywa, Mutundo market and ending at Quilemba Centrality with 13.8 kilometers in length, a slice that still needs to be built, covering yet another 3.15 kilometers of rail path that already exists from the former CFM station next to Correios de Angola.
Speaking to Angop, Francisco Jonas admitted that the railway ring roads are important for uniting cities, saving time and reducing distances and costs.
"The circular railway is a transport mode that will improve access to places where access by road is difficult, without forgetting that it can also improve the structural panorama of the city of Lubango", said the student, quoted by Angop.
In the list of advantages of this "modal of transport" he highlighted the fast, frequent, comfortable and safe transport, the absence of constraints, the ease of circulation despite the weather conditions, the low cost for long distances, the economic transport of cargo, pollute little, consume little energy, among others, writes Angop.
On the other side of the coin, the high investments in construction and maintenance, the need to combine other types of transport to reach the destination, as well as long travel times, can be seen as disadvantages, said the student, adding that among the main obstacles that may arise during its execution include the high number of houses along the route and the water courses that could lead to a more expensive execution, writes Angop.
At the fair, which took place between the 23rd and 26th of November, 'silver' was awarded to a project to implement public bicycles as a means of transport, also presented by ISPH civil engineering students, which aims to remove traffic from the city and stimulate to the use of an "environmentally friendly medium".
On the podium, in third place, there was also a taxi service platform, presented by students from the Instituto Superior Politécnico Independente.
