Basic food basket prices will be regulated by the private sphere

The Government will transfer the regulation of prices of the basic food basket to the private sphere. According to Edna Kapalo, national director of Internal Trade, a private entity for regulating the prices of basic food products will be presented shortly by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, through a public tender.

Currently, this regulation is the responsibility of a public entity, however through superior guidelines it will be carried out by the private sphere, explained the official, in declarations to Angop, on the sidelines of the inauguration of a commercial enterprise, this Tuesday.

Regarding the choice of the private organization that will guide the regulation of prices, Edna Kapalo informed that the public tender is in the launching phase, ensuring speed of the procedure, writes Angop.

The guardianship, according to the national director of Internal Trade, will be responsible for monitoring prices, along with the private organization chosen through the tender.

She also took the opportunity to highlight that the most significant action in terms of balancing the prices of basic basket goods concerns the creation of the Strategic Food Reserve (REA) in 2020.

The current prices of food in the domestic market are stable, especially after the introduction of the REA, she said, adding that there is a certain oscillation that is related to the scenario we are experiencing.

"There is some fluctuation in prices, but this fluctuation has a lot to do with the period we are living, as well as the increase or decrease of some products of national production", she said, speaking to Angop.
