Summit on peace and stability in eastern DRCongo takes place in Luanda

A new "mini summit on peace and security" in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo), under the mediation of President João Lourenço and with the absence of the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, began this Wednesday in Luanda.

The President of the Republic, as mediator of the African Union (AU), presides over the meeting, which began in the afternoon in the capital, with a view to stability in the eastern region of the DRC.

Present at the meeting, which takes place behind closed doors in one of Luanda's hotels, are the President of the RDCongo, Félix Tshisekedi, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Rwanda, Vincent Biruta, representing Kagame.

The current President of Burundi, Évariste Ndayishimiye, and the former head of state of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, who arrived in Luanda at the beginning of the morning, are also participating in this summit as guests of João Lourenço.

The adoption of a Joint Action Plan for the resolution of the dispute in the eastern region of the DRC and the normalization of political-diplomatic relations between the two countries of the great lakes region are on the agenda of this mini-summit in Luanda.

A final communiqué will be presented to the media at the end of the work.
