New phase of the Caculo Cabaça hydroelectric project will create around 3000 jobs

Around 3000 jobs will be created with the start of the second phase of the Caculo Cabaça hydroelectric project, which was launched last Saturday by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges.

On Saturday, the progress of the work on the project located in Cuanza Norte was witnessed by João Baptista Borges, who on the occasion highlighted the issue of employment, "referring that there will be, at a later stage of the project, about 3000 jobs for Angolan staff".

According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Water (Minea), to which VerAngola had access, in his speech, João Baptista Borges "proudly saluted the youth who work daily on this project".

He also took the opportunity to refer to the "important water potential" of the country, "even talking about future projects for the country, taking advantage of this enormous potential of the country".

The holder of the Energy and Water portfolio, quoted in the statement, also said that the country "is moving towards a low carbon economy, step by step with what is happening in the rest of the world", reinforcing "the issue of transporting energy, and there is a huge effort by the Executive in this direction".

As an example, he mentioned the South and East, "where there is still supply through thermal plants", adding "also clean energy from solar parks and gas".

The minister also asked for "a climate of good coexistence between all the parties involved in this construction process".

He also took the opportunity to emphasize the issue of employment. "The issue of employment was also highlighted in this approach by João Baptista Borges, referring that there will be, at a later stage of the project, about 3000 jobs for Angolan staff, also emphasizing the issue of the qualification of this workforce", reads if in the communiqué.

He also considered that the local economy will have a "great boost with this project beyond the important social factor, which includes various aspects, such as the construction of schools, electrification of small towns and others".

In addition to the minister, the progress of the enterprise was also witnessed by the governor of Cuanza Norte, Pedro Maquita Júlia, the Secretary of State for Water, Manuel Quintino, among others.

The note also notes that "at the beginning of the work, the director and his delegation held a meeting where the progress and difficulties of the project were discussed", followed by the ceremony "where a visit was formally carried out to verify the general contract work of the Caculo Cabaça Hydroelectric Project".

On the occasion, Fernando Gonga, general director of GAMEK, spoke of the project "in technical terms, namely the advances registered by the work since it began".

On the CGGC side, the general director of the project, Chen Yonggang, took the opportunity to refer to the "strategic importance of the project for Angola", leaving the commitment to "do everything to meet the deadlines" of the project.

According to the note, the president of International Trade of the CGGC, Deng Yunqi, also spoke, who "thanked the Government for the support and effort" in this project. He also mentioned the "greatness of the project, at the level of the African continent" and "the need for a joint effort in this process of the work of Caculo Cabaça for its success".

In turn, the governor of Cuanza Norte, "thanked, in an effusive way, on behalf of the people of Cuanza Norte, for this great undertaking and its enormous value".

Cited in another communiqué from the Government of the Province of Cuanza Norte, to which VerAngola had access, Pedro Maquita Júlia was satisfied with "announcement of about 3000 direct jobs, with the start of this second phase of the project, especially for youth" .

According to a note from the provincial government, the project has an overall physical execution of 6.71 percent, with emphasis on works in the river diversion tunnels, restitution channel, access tunnel to the main power plant, definitive bridge, among others. .

According to Minea, the project is expected to start generating energy from 2026. "The generation of energy from the first turbine of the Caculo Cabaça AH is scheduled for October 2026", the Minea statement reads.
