Historical cinemas in Angola excluded from the liquidation process of the company Edecine

Ten historic cinemas in Angola will be excluded from the liquidation process of the public company Edecine, remaining in the public sector under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, according to a presidential decree consulted by Lusa.

:

The list includes five theaters in Luanda (Cinema Tropical, Alfa 1 and 2 cinemas, Cinema Teatro Nacional and Atlântico) and another five in Lobito (Nimas 500), Benguela (Monumental), Huambo (Ruacaná and São João) and Moçâmedes (Cinema Estudio ).

The diploma, signed by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on 7 November, justifies the exclusion with “strategic reasons” so that part of the said company's assets remain in the public business sector.

Added to this is the fact that some of these sites “are classified as National Intangible Heritage and must remain in the domain of the ministerial department responsible for the Culture sector”, says the document.

The extinction of the public company Edecine – UEE. – Company Distributing and Exhibiting Cinema, State Economic Unit was approved by presidential decree 68/22, of March 16, for “failure to fulfill the social objective”.

The company's assets must be liquidated by March 12, 2024, as determined by the diploma.
