Angola Rally Team wins Angolan Rally Raid Championship

The ART - Angola Rally Team, became the national champion of Rally Raid in the “E” class, after conquering the third place in the Rally de Cacuso, Malange province.

The final competition of the championship took place on the 13th of November, in the city of Cacuso. The team left Luanda with an advantage of 18 points to the 2nd ranked, "forcing it to approach this challenge prudently, since concluding the competition was fundamental for the revalidation of the title", says a statement sent to VerAngola.

The duo João Lota/Nuno Santos started the race safely, ending the prologue and the first qualifying with the second best time in their class, when the electrical problems began on the Polaris XP1000. These setbacks conditioned the progress in the third classification, and forced a cautious approach to the fourth and final stage.

Nuno Santos, navigator, reveals that he came to question the title due to the various difficulties that were imposed on them throughout the race, since victory in the championship would only be possible if they managed to reach the end of this Rally.

João Lota, Pilot, considers that this was just one of the many dramatic situations that they had to overcome throughout the season, without ever lowering their arms.

The Angolan Rally Raid Championship was disputed in six races throughout the year – Namibe, Bengo, Quiçama (twice), Huambo and Cacuso. After winning second place in the Kalahari Rally in September, in South Africa, the "Angola Rally Team" achieved the perfect outcome, becoming national champion for the fourth time.

The national champions are already working on the project for the next season, with the main objective being the preparation for the Dakar Rally.
