PR says the state will continue to employ in the social sector

The President of the Republic said this Thursday, in Luanda, that the State wants to reduce the workforce in the civil service, but for the social sector this orientation is contrary, with massive admissions of doctors and teachers.

João Lourenço was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Specialized Center for Endemics and Pandemics, located in the commune of Calumbo, municipality of Viana, province of Luanda.

"You know that the executive defined the need to reduce the civil service payroll, therefore, as a principle, the trend will be to reduce the civil service workforce", said the President.

According to João Lourenço, the State is a large employer, "but it wants to be less and less an employer and pass this responsibility on to the private sector".

"But, as the saying goes, there is no rule without exception and it is precisely in the social sector that we make this exception. Therefore, this orientation of reducing the workforce in the civil service is not happening in the social sector, on the contrary, we are making massive admissions of doctors, teachers and health technicians in recent years", he stressed.

The head of state said that next year some hospital construction work should start, some of which could be completed in 2022.

"What doesn't finish next year will finish later, in [20]23 or [20]24. Right now, we are building the Ondjiva General Hospital, in Cunene province, and, in this way, we are thinking to the next two years to complete what is essential in terms of general hospitals", he said.

According to João Lourenço, from then on, resources will be allocated to serve the primary network, "which is vast".

"These are cheaper units, individually speaking, each unit will be cheaper, but there are a few hundred, although at that time we had already built some units at the level of municipalities", he stressed.
