PRA-JA leaves the United Patriotic Front and advances alone in the 2027 elections

The leader of PRA-JA Servir Angola, Abel Chivukuvuku, announced this Wednesday the departure of this party from the United Patriotic Front (FPU), a political platform that united some parties for the 2022 elections.

:

Abel Chivukuvuku was elected, on Monday, leader of this political force, legalized in October 2024, at the start of the constituent congress of PRA-JA Servir Angola.

The FPU was created in 2022, coordinated by the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), which at the time included the still political project PRA-JA Servir Angola, the Democratic Bloc and individuals from civil society.

In his closing speech at the first congress of this party presented to society in 2019, Abel Chivukuvuku appealed to opposition political parties not to be “afraid” or “envious” of PRA-JA Servir Angola.

“We are the kandengues (kids) from the legal and institutional point of view of Angolan politics. They are older, they have been there for a long time, but what have they done? Now we have to do the work”, said Abel Chivukuvuku.

The politician, who was a UNITA activist for several years and leader of the Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola – Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE), expressed openness “to negotiations” with opposition parties.

“I realized that in the Political Commission, which met yesterday [Tuesday] and today [Tuesday], one of the biggest problems was the FPU. Why are we going to get in trouble with the FPU? It was one of the biggest problems,” he stressed.

According to Abel Chivukuvuku, he received the mandate and responsibility from the congress to prepare the party for “the need to be able to advance to the [2027] elections alone”, as well as for the possibility of “making concertations”.

“We have to prepare ourselves to move forward alone, but be prepared for the eventuality of conversations, but these conversations have to have rules, because we have already suffered a lot with this FPU issue,” he highlighted.

For the “brothers of the regime”, referring to the party in power, Abel Chivukuvuku warned “they will lose anyway”, remembering that “life does not end when it stops being power”.

“It continues and we will continue as brothers, working together, in dialogue, in harmony, because that is our purpose,” he said.

According to the president of PRA-JA Servir Angola, “a powerful, serious and fulfilling Angola” is not built “by excluding the other who is different, it is by bringing the other in”.
