Unesco highlights João Lourenço's commitment to strengthen education in times of pandemic

The deputy director general of Unesco, Stefania Giannini, stressed the commitment of the President, João Lourenço, to strengthen the education sector in times of pandemic, stating that the participation of the head of state in the global meeting on education is synonymous with the commitment that the country has made to improve the education system.

The head, who was speaking this Wednesday in Lisbon at the XI Meeting of Ministers of Education of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), also took the opportunity to highlight the fact that in Angola there are more than 13 million students enrolled this academic year, she writes to Angop.

Gildo Matias, Secretary of State for Secondary Education, took the opportunity to point out that since 2015 new teachers have been hired, making it possible to universalize general education.

The secretary also emphasized the bet that Angola has made in the construction and rehabilitation of school infrastructure.

At the meeting, the country presented some proposals to improve the education system: the creation of a digital book for primary education and a glossary of education and training that will aim to disseminate the CPLP member states in schools. It also shared its experience in adapting to the pandemic and how it was safe to restart classes.

At the meeting, which was held online, the level of implementation of the Education Multilateral Cooperation Action Plan 2016/2020 was assessed and the Education 2021/2026 Strategic Action and Cooperation Plan was also approved.
