Owner recovers illegally occupied property 27 years after filing with Luanda court

It took 27 years for Bernardino Maurício to recover his property, which was being illegally occupied by JF Comercial.

The efforts for the family to get the property back started in 1993. In a statement to the TPA, Bernardino Maurício said that at the time, when they went to the provincial housing directorate, they were faced with the existence of "a third person, in this case JF Comercial, held by Jaime Freitas".

According to the owner, JF Comercial installed itself in the property "without complying with the normal procedures and soon began to build", having been installed the Tecomat warehouse.

"The marimbondos used corruption, nepotism, influence peddling and throughout these 27 years," said the owner.

After more than two decades, the judicial battle comes to an end. The Provincial Court of Luanda decided, under the terms of an executive session, to hand over the property to Bernardino Maurício's family.

"Our justice is to be congratulated, I want to thank the new direction of President João Lourenço because if it were not for the new winds in which no one is too powerful or too rich to be judged, or too poor to be defended, we would never have received this," he said.

The court gave the evicted party a period of seven working days to abandon the property. They must leave the property empty, just as they found it over two decades ago.
