Road accident leaves 32 injured in Cacuaco municipality in Luanda

A car accident this Tuesday caused 32 injured, two of them in serious condition, in the municipality of Cacuaco, on the outskirts of the province of Luanda, confirmed hospital source.

In the cause of the accident, according to victims heard by Angolan public radio, is the loss of brakes and speeding, which caused the overturning of the vehicle carrying vendors.

According to the orthopedic doctor of the municipal hospital of Cacuaco, Eduardo Manuel, out of a total of 32 people who entered that health unit this Tuesday morning, 29 women and three men, two who were in serious condition were transferred to the Hospital Américo Boavida.

Road accidents are the second largest cause of death in the country, after malaria, with 1600 people killed and 9360 injured this year, in a total of 8106 accidents.

The Ministry of the Interior in the message on the occasion of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Victims, marked on Sunday, said that in the country, statistical records point to speeding and alcohol consumption while driving as the main causes of road accidents, added to the lack of prudence of drivers, pedestrians and motorcyclists, among other issues.

According to the note, data from recent years are worrying, with the capital being the leader in the list of accidents, mainly due to collisions, being ahead of Huíla and Benguela.
