The head of state expressed his position in a message to the nation, during a ceremony that also served to honor professional categories that have stood out in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic.

He stressed that the measures that the executive determined in the Presidential Decree in force "aim to save the lives of Angolans, and, therefore, must be accepted by the citizens".

For Wednesday, the date that celebrates 45 years of independence of the country, a demonstration was called, promoted by a group of young activists to demand better living conditions and the setting of a date for the first municipal elections in Angola, however prohibited by the Provincial Government of Luanda.

In his speech, the President regretted that the years following independence had not been what Angolans dreamed of, which would have been to build a developed country, where Angolans would start to benefit from the vast wealth that nature offers and recover the dignity deserved as human beings in a free country.

According to João Lourenço, over three decades, Angola had to face external military aggressions and a war between brothers, which destroyed not only the country's main infrastructure, but also families and, in general, the human tissue.

In 2002, peace and national reconciliation was achieved, continued João Lourenço, which allowed the beginning of national reconstruction and the enjoyment of the right and guarantees contemplated in the Constitution of the Republic.

"The country faced serious challenges to its own existence, but it always knew how to overcome them, because it relied on the strength of its people, but it also achieved great achievements that we have an obligation to preserve and consolidate", he said.

The head of state stressed that the country is consolidating the foundations of a true democratic and rule of law and of a true market economy, where the private business sector has a prominent role in creating national wealth and offering jobs of work.

The fight against corruption, nepotism and compadrio were also highlighted by João Lourenço, reaffirming that "they are less and less likely to continue to reign in the country".

"As a result of the courageous measures that the executive and justice have been taking against those who have benefited from public financial and patrimonial incentives, which would be used to finance the Angolan State General Budget", he said.

"We reaffirm our commitment to the people and good governance, transparency in the management of public affairs, the fight against corruption and the moralization of society", said the President, stressing that "the image of Angola abroad has improved considerably by seriousness of current policies ".

João Lourenço stressed that in recent months, Angolans have lived with exceptional measures, which substantially changed the way of life, forcing the suspension of the education system, "so important for the present and the future of the country".

In this sense, the President highlighted some professional categories, "who being on the front line have allowed increased sacrifices to prevent and combat covid-19, so that the country does not stop, so that hope remains present".

Health, defense and security workers, pilots, entrepreneurs and journalists were highlighted.
