According to the Minister of State and Chief of Staff to the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, Angola will celebrate 45 years of independence on Wednesday, the celebration of which should be done "with great joy".

"Considering that it is a remarkable date for all of us, unfortunately, since the beginning of the year that the country has been facing the pandemic of the covid-19, which has greatly influenced our individual and collective life and demanded a lot of sacrifice from us all, to that we could continue to preserve life, preventing massive contagion between us and loss of life ", said Adão de Almeida.

The minister stressed that, on this occasion, it is traditional for the head of state to decorate a set of personalities, who over the years have made their contribution in favor of the country.

But this year, exceptionally, the President of the Republic will not proceed to individual decorations, having decided to pay a tribute in general to the Angolan people for the sacrifices they have faced, so that the covid-19 pandemic does not cause greater damage to the whole society.

"In this way, due to the engagement and commitment of several professional classes, in an action that will be held tomorrow [Tuesday], the President of the Republic will honor a set of professional categories for their commitment, for their dedication, each in his own branch so that, without prejudice to the pandemic, the country does not stop, the country continues to stand and mark firm steps towards development ", he said

At the ceremony, the classes of doctors, nurses, auxiliary health technicians, epidemiologists and general health workers will be honored, as well as citizens infected with covid-19, "who for this reason consented to sacrifices, with regard to their home, hospital isolation, particularly, those who have been through very serious situations in relation to their clinical status ".

Defense and security bodies will also be honored - police, fire and military, who "have been sparing no effort to maintain order and public tranquility", he added.

"Journalists will also be honored, because their role in informing and building citizens' awareness has also been very important so that together we can face the covid-19 pandemic," said Adão de Almeida, also enumerating entrepreneurs, truck drivers, pilots and elements of culture and arts.

Adão de Almeida reiterated that the tributes "are not individual", but for professional groups, who will be represented by a member of the class at the ceremony, in which the President of the Republic will transmit a message to the nation.
