"On Tuesday, a request was sent to the Criminal Investigation Service and the Attorney General's Office asking for an independent autopsy," he told Lusa Zola Bambi.
Innocent de Matos, 26, died following clashes in Luanda between police and protesters last week, on Angola's independence day, with conflicting versions as to the causes of death.
A report by the Américo Boavida hospital indicates that the young man underwent a surgical intervention and points to the cause of death as an aggression on the head with a blunt object, unspecified.
Witnesses accompanying the student report that the young man died at the scene after being hit by a bullet fired by the police, who, however, discards any responsibility.
Zola Bambi, the family's representative, has already said that he will sue the state and the police, and he is carrying out several measures, including the request for an autopsy.
"The body has the necessary evidence so that the report that will support the process will be prepared later," he explained.
The application requests that an autopsy be authorized within 24 hours, which will be accompanied by a family member, a lawyer from the office representing the family, two doctors and a photographer.
This Wednesday Zola Bambi was in the central morgue of Luanda, accompanied by family members of Inocêncio de Matos, to do the body recognition.
On 11 November, thousands of young people who wanted to reach the center of Luanda to participate in a demonstration were stopped by the police, using tear gas and water cannons. The police claimed to have used only non-lethal means to disperse the protesters.
