The candidate words for "Word of the Year" will be announced on December 1st. For now, and until the beginning of next month, all those interested in contributing only have to open the Plural Editores website and write their suggestion.
After the announcement of the candidate words, an online vote will be held until December 31st. The winning word will be announced on January 4th, 2021.
Porto Editora revealed this Friday that the initiative will take place for the first time, this year, simultaneously in Angola, Portugal and Mozambique.
Last year, the winning word in Angola was "IVA", which won with 40 percent of the votes.
The "Word of the Year" initiative is promoted by Plural Editores and aims to "highlight the lexical richness and creative dynamism of the Portuguese language, the living and precious heritage of all those who express themselves in it, thus emphasizing the importance of words and their meanings in the individual and social production of the senses with which we interpret and build life itself.
