The president of the Industrial Association of Angola (AIA) defended this Tuesday, in Luanda, the relaunch of social housing programs for high employability, which includes civil construction.

José Severino was speaking on the sidelines of the conference "Thinking Industry 2020", promoted by the National Institute of Innovation and Industrial Technologies (INITI), which was attended by the Secretary of State for Trade, Amadeu Nunes.

The official said that the proposal was presented to the Committee of Economy and Finance of the National Assembly, as one of the proposals for the exit of the crisis.

According to José Severino, the social housing program involves not only the construction sector, but also building materials and transportation.

"Employability goes through construction, industry is a slower process," he said.

The president of the EIA also advocated support for small and medium-sized enterprises "in a pragmatic and not merely rhetorical way," pointing out that "the mortality rate," particularly of micro and small enterprises in the country is 80 percent, one "of the largest in the world.

"It is one of the largest in the world, because we also have a high rate of propensity to create wealth, to create businesses, so we have to make a conversion," he said.

For his part, the national director of Industry, César da Cruz, said that 45 years after the country's independence, the sector continues to face great challenges, especially with regard to infrastructure, roads, water and light.

"A lot has already been done, but it is still necessary to do more to feed the industry," he said.

According to César da Cruz, work continues to be done for the expansion of the electricity network, necessary for the achievement of the government's plan for the development of the agro-industrial sector.

"The countryside is in remote areas, of difficult access, both on land and in the air, many of them, and for this purpose it is necessary to bring electricity and water to these areas, the national distribution network continues to expand, as soon as this is effectively completed, we will be able to implement industries in these locations and thus take advantage of the synergies between agriculture and industry," he stressed.

César da Cruz said that Angola already has some significant industry in terms of cement, detergents, food, beverages, although there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of international standardization, but the country is prepared to join the African Continental Free Trade Zone.
