The discovery of these six zones with the potential to explore diamonds is the result of aerial studies that the company is carrying out in Angola, says a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access.
"At the time, Al Cook revealed that it was already possible to identify six potential kimberlites in the aerial survey that is being carried out to detect the presence of diamonds in various regions of the country", says the note.
Thus, Al Cook said he believes that when they are explored, the country's diamond industry will gain new momentum.
"We believe that, when explored, they will be able to boost the diamond industry in Angola", indicated the CEO of De Beers, speaking to the press, at the end of the meeting with João Lourenço.
According to the official, the next phase "involves detailed geological studies to confirm the presence of the kimberlites, with exploration work that could last for one to two years."
"Drilling is already underway", and if the results are "promising", the CEO of the multinational foresees an investment of "billions of dollars", with the potential to generate thousands of jobs, says the note.
Being in Angola with the intention of participating in the International Conference on Diamonds, Al Cook highlighted the importance of the audience with João Lourenço, considering it "quite" positive.
"It was wonderful to be here in Angola once again. We had a very positive meeting with the President of the Republic, in the presence of the minister (...). We took advantage of the opportunity to focus on the progress we have made with regard to diamond sector", he said, quoted in the CIPRA statement.
