"We are here to invest in an innovative system in terms of signaling and communication, that is, on the railways there must be standardization of the signals that are placed on the line", said Paulo Cardoso this Tuesday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2nd Cycle of Railway Technical Conferences Angola Rail 2023, the person in charge said that the company will invest in a "very modern, digital system" regarding signaling on Angola's railways.

Paulo Cardoso highlighted the lack of harmonization of communication signals on Angola's railways, considering it to be a normal aspect, which has already happened in other countries, especially as there are three different railways in Angola.

"So, the three railways must be harmonized so that we can all speak the same language in terms of communication", he argued.

Angola's railway network is made up of the Luanda Railway (CFL), the Benguela Railway (CFB) and the Moçâmedes Railway (CFM).

Regarding the global investment volume estimated by Siemens Mobility Angola for the implementation of the aforementioned project, still in the pipeline, the company's general director did not go into details, only noting that work is underway with government authorities.

"We are actively working with the (Angolan) Government in order to be able to better assess this type of investment, we cannot provide numbers now, because it is up to the Ministry of Transport", he argued.

An investment of this kind made in Mozambique, in six years, allowed the recruitment of more than 100 people and an investment of close to two million dollars, revealed Paulo Cardoso.

"For Angola we are evaluating better to be able to make the investment and it could be more or less that value", he concluded.

The challenges of implementing railways and challenges and opportunities in the dynamics of a new sustainable mobility are some of the topics being addressed at this conference that runs until Wednesday, in Luanda.

The conference, promoted by the Association of Railway Technicians of Angola and public companies in this land transport subsector, celebrates the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Railway Safety Week and the 135th anniversary of the beginning of railway exploration in Angola.
