Portuguese immigrant creates online platform to connect the Portuguese-speaking community

Portuguese immigrant to Luxembourg João Barbosa created the 'Mundo Lusófono' platform to connect "immigrants, companies, products and services", in order to overcome physical borders and strengthen "their roots and cultural values", he told the Lusa agency this Wednesday.

In this digital initiative, it will be possible to access job offers, local Portuguese-speaking commerce products, travel reservations "with exclusive prices", public institutions, associations and events, declared the founder to the Lusa agency.

Graduated in Marketing Management and Business Technologies, João Barbosa contextualized that he decided to create "a place where immigrants could find a little bit of home, regardless of where they are".

Due to his proximity to Portuguese, Angolan, Cape Verdean and Brazilian cultures, he feels like "a Portuguese-speaking citizen", he said.

For companies, the platform promises unprecedented visibility, "reaching more than seven million Portuguese speakers", spread across the world without the need for a "high monetary or technological investment", he said.

"It's the opportunity to expand business effectively and connect with the [Lusophone] community," stated João Barbosa.

The idea came from realizing the need to overcome the lack of presence of some Portuguese-speaking products, as well as to create a platform that would bring together useful information for the immigrant community.

The founder guaranteed that the platform will be accessible "anywhere in the world", but "has a geolocation function, which allows for more relevant and local suggestions".

Shipping charges and policies are not managed by the platform, as it "only connects the seller to the customer".

So far, this project has been financed with its own capital, but João Barbosa does not rule out using other investments in the future.

The origin of the products present on the platform depends on whoever joins the platform, however, João Barbosa intends to have products available from all Portuguese-speaking countries, initially in countries such as Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, which have a strong Portuguese-speaking migrant presence.
