"The increase in instability and coups d'état is a consequence of governments that do not govern their people, a consequence of governments that change the constitution so as not to leave power", said the president of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), Adalberto Costa Júnior.
Júnior was speaking in an interview with the Mozambican private channel STV.
"We do not applaud coups d'état, they are not the solution [to African problems]", highlighted Adalberto Costa Júnior, stressing, however, that it is the inability of African leaders to provide a better quality of life to the populations "stimulates the occurrence of displacement of governments by military personnel", he continued.
The president of UNITA called on military governments to ensure a rapid transition to elected civilian power.
"These coup perpetrators must make rapid transitions", through "electoral processes that return sovereignty to the people", emphasized the UNITA leader.
Several African countries, mainly in Central Africa, have recently seen military-led coups d'état.
