Men vandalize cemetery in Benguela to steal lead from coffins

A group of unidentified men are vandalizing the Camunda cemetery, in Benguela province, to steal lead from coffins, the National Police announced this Monday.

According to the spokesman for the National Police in Benguela, Chief Inspector Ernesto Chiwale, in the early hours of Monday, another vandalizing action was recorded in the aforementioned cemetery, the second in two weeks.

"Unfortunately, another act of vandalism was recorded in the cemetery. Investigative steps are underway, but some measures have also been adopted, combined with some residents in the area surrounding the cemetery so that there is greater communication, timely information, especially when they identify any strange movement in the cemetery", said Ernesto Chiwale, speaking to Radio Nacional de Angola.

The spokesman said that patrols on public roads were also reinforced, in addition to the investigations that are continuing to identify, locate and arrest the alleged perpetrators.

In turn, the head of the cemetery, Miguel Matias, told Angolan public radio that at least six deposits had already been vandalized, the last two in the early hours of Monday.
