Adalberto Costa Júnior defends greater dialogue between institutions after meeting with João Lourenço

The leader of UNITA was received this Thursday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, advocating greater dialogue between institutions and political leaders and the de-partisanship of the country.

Adalberto Costa Júnior was speaking at the end of the first meeting between the party and the head of state after the general elections held on 24 August, in which the political party Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA), in power for 47 years, won.

According to the leader of the Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), the country is at the beginning of a cycle of challenges, advocating greater dialogue between institutions "regardless of whether you can belong to different parties".

"We were here, at the first meeting, in the sense that we could also understand what the positioning, the vision, the perspective would be of seeing those that are the essential wishes of the Angolan and his greatest anxieties, fundamentally this issue, carried out", said Adalberto Costa Júnior.

The politician stressed that it is always possible to "work together" taking into account the national interest, "depending effectively on the level of accountability".

"Angola indisputably lacks more democracy, Angola lacks less partisanship in its institutions and these are challenges that, if they are achieved – a more democratic Angola, a less partisan Angola – everyone will gain from this and this is a challenge that fundamentally also passes from the capacity leaders to be able to dialogue", he underlined.

For Adalberto Costa Júnior, "the fact that this meeting took place is an indicator that there is a condition for dialogue".

"The challenge of achieving the goals that I have set here is to practice day-to-day, the future will respond", he stressed.
