Tchizé dos Santos threatens PR with a demonstration if it continues to be persecuted

Businesswoman Tchizé dos Santos, daughter of former President José Eduardo dos Santos, threatened this Monday to demonstrate in front of the Angolan embassy in London if she continues to be the target of what she considers to be persecution by the President of the Republic.

:

The threat, made through an audio broadcast on social media, is related to the withdrawal, on September 30, of the banking activity license of Banco Prestígio, founded by the businesswoman.

In the audio, Tchizé warns of the shame that her gesture represents for the image of the Government of Angola before the international community.

The businesswoman also declared that she never received "a penny from any bank transfer" from her late father and that she has not inherited any inheritance so far, nor has she had access to any money from the Angolan State, thus seeing no reason for the persecution she says is be targeted by the Government of President João Lourenço.

"I ask you, Mr. João Lourenço: Know that my name is not José Eduardo dos Santos, I am not my father. You have already taken revenge (...) you have laughed enough to stop this (... )", asks the businesswoman.

"I have never held any position in the Government or in the management of State money (...) What is the problem that the Angolan State has with me? If this continues, I will address myself... demonstration alone (...) with a poster saying: "João Lourenço: I am not my father", he reiterates, in the audio.

Last Friday, a press release signed by the chairman of the Board of Directors of Banco Prestígio, Tito Luís Perdigão Abrantes Zuzarte de Mendonça, reveals that the National Bank of Angola (BNA) "revoked the license" of activity of that bank, founded by the businesswoman.

According to Tito Zuzarte de Mendonça, the revocation of the banking license was made without the BNA having given a "definitive response" to Banco Prestígio to a proposal to request authorization to sell 80 percent of the bank's shares.

The sale of 80 percent of the shares was intended to overcome the constraints allegedly caused by the non-release of funds deposited on demand at Banco Económico, a banking institution under Angolan law.

The non-release of those values represents "a clear transgression of current legislation", considers Tito Zuzarte de Mendonça in the statement.
