PR approves financing agreements of 450 million to fight severe drought

The President, João Lourenço, approved two financing agreements to cover the water supply project to combat severe drought and climate change, estimated at around 450 million dollars.

:

According to presidential order 236/22 of 5 October, to which Lusa had access this Friday, the two financing agreements aim at financial coverage of the Angola's Climate Resilience and Water Security Project (Reclima) to be celebrated with the Republic of Angola and multilateral institutions.

With the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (BIRD) the agreement is in the "global value of 300 million dollars, equivalent to 267.9 million euros" and with the French Development Agency (AFD) in the global value of 150 million of dollars (152 million euros).

For the materialization of the program to combat severe drought and climate change, the Minister of Finance, Vera Daves, authorized by the President, signed on Thursday, in Luanda, the financing agreement for Reclima with the World Bank.

Reclima should improve water supply services for water security in rural and urban areas and the Angolan authorities expect to cover around 955,000 people.

The initiative should also allow access to reliable water for drinking, fishing, agriculture and livestock to 19,250 poor people through the construction of the Sendi Dam, in Huíla province, which is also affected by the drought.
