DP World triples productivity at the Port of Luanda Multipurpose Terminal

DP World Luanda, the company that holds the concession to operate and manage the Multiusos Terminal, tripled its productivity in just seven months of operation.

:

"In seven months of operation, we have registered significant progress in the level of efficiency of our operations, as well as in the modernization and development of the terminal. By tripling operational efficiency, we greatly streamlined operations at the Multipurpose Terminal and strengthened the position of the Port of Luanda in Africa", says Paco Pinzon, CEO of DP World Luanda, in a statement sent to VerAngola.

The official believes that the good indicators already achieved will continue to improve: "This means that in the coming months we will be working more and better, for the good of the development of the Angolan port sector and for the good reputation of its infrastructures".

Over the past seven months, DP World Luanda has provided a training and development program to its employees, installed new equipment and implemented new work and management processes.

The acquisition of 30 new shipyard tractors and four new automatic container spreaders, as well as four new mobile cranes, together with improved lighting along the pier and the central yard contributed decisively to improving the operational efficiency of the Multipurpose Terminal from the Port of Luanda, adds the company.

Consequently, the Multipurpose Terminal became the first and only one in the country to receive two large vessels simultaneously and to disembark and handle the logistical handling of the two cargoes.

This terminal in the Port of Luanda also received the container ship MV Polonia, from the carrier Hapag Lloyd, having, during cargo handling, achieved a record operating productivity of 46 work movements per hour (WBMPH), compared to the 13.05 achieved in the 10th week of operation. During the same period, the cargo of the Nile Dutch Breda vessel was handled, and the Multipurpose Terminal team achieved the highest crane productivity to date – 18.5 gross movements per hour (GMPH).

It should be recalled that, on 1 March this year, the multinational DP World was granted the concession to operate and manage the Multipurpose Terminal (TM) at the Port of Luanda, for a period of 20 years. On the award date, an investment of US$190 million was announced to modernize and improve the terminal, which has been carried out.
