Country wins bronze on its debut in the African Swimming Championship

The national swimming team got off to a good start in its debut in the African Championship, which kicked off this Monday in Accra, Ghana, after winning bronze in the women's 4x200 meter freestyle relay modality.

Composed of Lia Lima, Rafaela Santo, Maria Freitas and Catarina Sousa, the national relay won bronze after reaching the mark of nine minutes, 14 seconds and 26 tenths of a second.

According to Angop, in addition to winning the bronze medal in the competition, the athletes also broke the national relay record, established in 1999 by Nádia Cruz, Aida Albuquerque, Ana Romero and Suely Neto in 10 minutes, 16 seconds and 38 tenths of a second.

The gold was won by the South African team, which finished the race in eight minutes, 26 seconds and 35 tenths of a second. Silver was won by the Egyptian national team, which reached the mark of eight minutes, 45 seconds and 22 tenths of a second.
