Luanda Science Center ready to come true after government approval

Angola will have an institution for children, young people and the elderly to learn about science in an interactive way and to develop a scientific culture.

It is the Luanda Science Center, whose organic statute was approved this Thursday, during the ninth ordinary session of the Council of Ministers, chaired by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

According to the minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Maria do Rosário Sambo, the purpose of this initiative is to encourage scientific culture within the Angolan community.

"The Luanda Science Center is an institution with the nature of a public establishment and specifically an institution for the dissemination of science," stated the minister. The responsible for the Ministry of Science also stated that this is an institution that "aims to contribute to promoting the scientific culture of the population, regardless of age, with a simple language, using different interactive means".

The new scientific dissemination institution will operate in the former facilities of Fábrica de Sabão, in Largo do Baleizão, on the Luanda coast.

During the Council of Ministers meeting, the organic statutes of the University of Luanda, the Higher Institute of Educational Sciences of Uíge and the polytechnic institutes of the provinces of Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul, Bié and Moxico were also approved, as well as the regulations the pedagogical colleges of Bengo and Bié and the School of Social Sciences, Arts and Urbanity of Mbanza Congo.
