Angola has 28 licensed gold projects, 20 of which are in the prospecting phase and the rest already holding exploration titles, “but only two have started production and commercialization on a small scale”, announced an official source.

The data were transmitted by the minister of Mining Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, stressing that the country encompasses a territory whose geology is favorable to the occurrence of various minerals.

According to the official, who was speaking at the opening of the "1st Seminar on Gold Mining in Angola", taking place in the province of Huíla, in southern Angola, the organ he directs has been working on the implementation and promotion of gold projects.

"With a view to developing its important and diversified production chain, with a view to making the established goals realistic, which, however, are below expectations", the minister assumed.

Taking stock of the status of each mining project according to their respective stages of development, prospects for the development of industrial production, procedures to be adopted for the commercialization of gold and the situation of the mining project are the "priority" objectives of this initiative.

Diamantino Pedro Azevedo also considered that the occasion "is favorable" to study ways to improve the "performance and efficiency that will, in the near future, positively change existing statistical data, increasing production".

"As a result of its enormous possibilities of occurrences in the most different geological formations, Angola seeks to occupy a place in the list of gold producing countries in Africa", he pointed out.

With the start of industrial gold production in Angola in 2019, considered by the minister as a "very positive fact", "a new era was opened, supported by the new governance model in the mining sector that prioritizes the development of value chains".
