MPLA already accepts candidacies for the post of party president

The deadline for receiving candidacies for the post of president of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), which will be elected in December, starts this Wednesday and runs until November 5th.

The announcement was made by Joaquim José Migueis, rapporteur of the candidacy subcommittee of the national preparatory commission for the 8th Ordinary Congress of the MPLA, which takes place from 9 to 11 December.
For now, the only militant to publicly announce his intention to run against João Lourenço, the current leader and President of Angola, is António Venâncio.

Contacted by Lusa, António Venâncio said that he will not submit his candidacy on Wednesday as he is still in the process of collecting the names of the 2000 militants who will have to support his proposal, which is one of the requirements of the process.

Applications are submitted from the 20th of October to the 5th of November and the verification of their compliance between the 20th of October and the 6th of November, with applicants being notified of their validity or nullity on the 8th of November.

The electoral campaign, an integral part of the process, will be carried out solely within the structures of the MPLA and its social organizations and will take place between 23 November and 7 December.
They can present their candidacy to the congress, militants or group of militants, delegates of provincial conferences or congress, candidates for individual bodies and candidates for the post of president of the party.

For MPLA president candidates, a minimum time of militancy equal to over 15 years is required, while candidates for vice president, general secretary and 1st provincial secretary must have a minimum of ten years.

Candidacies for individual bodies, namely for the position of president, must be supported by 2000 militants, of which 100 are registered in each of the 18 provinces of Angola.

Candidates for the 1st provincial secretary will have to submit entries from 1000 militants, of which 50 are enrolled in each of the municipalities of the respective province.

The MPLA statutes also establish that candidacies for the party's president must be formalized and accompanied by strategy motions that contain the candidates' essential ideas and proposals, as well as ways of applying the MPLA's program in the respective mandate.

Among the requirements to apply for the leadership of MPLA bodies are: being an Angolan citizen, faithful and uncompromising defender of the MPLA's political line, exemplary patriot, good organizational skills and leadership qualities, or being honest and honest.

The subcommittee will be responsible for receiving applications, analyzing their compliance with the MPLA's principles and statutes, ensuring compliance with the requirements, identifying possible errors or false information in the candidates' biographical notes and ensuring the necessary corrections.

According to the head of the candidacy subcommittee, candidates will be able to present their complaints until the date on which the electoral campaign begins.
