To be built in the Cuvelai basin, the Calucuve dam will consist of a set of channels that will extend for 11 kilometers and another 44 chimps.
The dam, which is valued at 96,420,460,427 kwanzas, should be completed within a two-year period, writes Angop.
The other project will also be built in the Cuvelai basin, but in the Ndué River region. For this dam, the State must disburse 85,199,661,556 kwanzas.
According to Angop, the Ndué dam will consist of a network of water channels that will extend for 75 kilometers and 15 more chimpacas.
These two dams are two of the five structural projects that will be carried out in the context of combating drought in Cunene.
With construction already underway for about a year, the Cunene River Catchment System is located, through the Cafu area. This project, which is estimated to be completed in February of next year, is budgeted at 44,358,360,651 kwanzas.
This system will cover two channels: one that will connect Kwanato to Ndombondola and another that will go from Kwanato to Namacunde, with 55 and 53 kilometers, respectively, in addition to 10 chimps.
All in all, when the three projects are completed, there will be a 344-kilometre network of canals, a pumping station and 89 chimps in the region.
The Calucuve dam and the Catchment System will each be capable of storing 100 million cubic meters of water. The Ndué dam will be able to store 145 million cubic meters of water, writes Angop.
In addition to these three, the plans also include the construction of a project to transfer water to the areas located on the right bank of the Cunene River and also the recovery of the Cova do Leão dam.
According to Angop, the rehabilitation of dikes and dams located in the municipality of Curoca is also planned.
