The Angolan businessman and economist Arnaldo Lago de Carvalho regretted this Wednesday that Angola does not have a strategy for the energy transition, stressing that alternatives to oil revenues will be needed.

In Angola "no one is thinking about it," said the manager, on the sidelines of the Luanda Oil & Gas and Renewable Energy conference, taking place in Luanda, asked about the energy transition process.

Lago de Carvalho warned that "in a while" Angola will not have foreign exchange income because oil has run out and stressed that alternative incomes will be needed.

"Two years from now, the country must have developed some area strong enough to obtain export revenues, how are they going to do it? Nobody is thinking about it", he criticized, defending that it is necessary to bring investment to other sectors, besides oil.

The economist, who worked at Sonangol and is an entrepreneur in the oil sector, was in favor of energy change, noting, however, that "it is necessary to know how to live with both", while developing alternatives to coal and oil.

"I agree with the energy change, but we don't stop driving or do not have electricity at home, when much of the energy that is consumed still uses coal, still uses oil", he noted, adding that "we need to make the transition", provided that "there are actually other sources of energy".

Lago de Carvalho considered that hydrogen will play a fundamental role in this process, but underlined the weight of the associated investment, stressing that "it is necessary to know how to live with both, it is necessary to develop alternatives and reduce the share of oil".

Experts from the oil industry and Angolan and international companies are meeting between Wednesday and Friday at the Talatona Convention Center (Luanda) for the conference and exhibition organized by the consultant Petroangola to debate issues related to the energy sector.
