Government contracts recovery of 43 dams for 24 billion kwanzas

The government approved the contracting of works for the recovery and removal of silt of 43 dams in Namibe province, for around 24 billion kwanzas, to alleviate the drought problem, according to a presidential order.

In the document, published in Diário da República on 7 October, which Lusa had access to this Monday, it is stated that the recovery and removal of silting of small dams and dams used to store water aims to mitigate the problem of water scarcity, mainly in long periods of drought and high rainfall irregularities.

The tender for carrying out the works was divided into three lots with a total cost of around 24 billion kwanzas: 21 dams will be borne by Sinohydro Corporation, Limitada, costing 12,505.320,000.00 kwanzas (18 million euros) ; 16 dams, valued at 6,252,660,000.00 kwanzas (9 million euros), were delivered to the consortium comprising Griner Engenharia and Sacyr Somague, and another six, worth 5,557,920,000.00 kwanzas (8 million euros), awarded to the consortium between Matra – Engenharia e Construção and China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group.

The contracts will be signed by the Minister of Energy and Water and the financial resources for their implementation will be assured by the Minister of Finance.
