Laúca Hydroelectric Development wins “World Engineering Oscar”

The Laúca Hydroelectric Plant won the “World Engineering Oscar”. This is the first time that a project in Angola has been recognized with this award, which is considered the most important distinction in this field.

"The renowned American publication Engineering News Record (ENR), specialized in the engineering and construction sector at a global level, has just announced that the Laúca Hydroelectric Plant project, supervised by the Ministry of Energy and Water, managed by Gamek and built by the OEC Angola was awarded the Global Best Projects award – the Oscar of world engineering – as the best project of the year in the Energy/Industrial category", can be read in a statement sent to VerAngola.

The note also mentions that, in this year's edition, the Vias de Luanda project, also built by OEC Angola, won the Merit Award in the Renovation/Restoration category.

Marcus Azeredo, president of OEC Angola, considered that this award recognizes "the commitment of the Government of Angola, the company and its workers with the delivery of works whose engineering and construction follow international standards of excellence both in terms of quality and innovation , whether from its implementation, improving and positively impacting people's lives and well-being".

Cited in the note, the official highlighted that the teams involved in these projects "dedicate themselves intensely" from the beginning to the delivery of the project, deserving "all recognition" for "making these achievements possible".

According to the statement, the 'Best Project Award' is promoted by the American magazine Engineering News-Record and distinguishes projects "innovative, sustainable, whose engineering and construction quality is widely verified and recognized by the jury, as well as the degree of global diversity of the teams. that implement them".

In this year's edition, the organization revealed having received a "record number of entries, more than double the projects evaluated on average in recent years". In total, 30 projects were recognized, spread over 21 countries.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for December 9, in New York, and will be broadcast online.
