Provincial schools will have additional funding for biosafety material

The provinces will have an additional budget to create biosecurity conditions in schools due to covid-19, announced this Thursday the Minister of Education of Angola, Luisa Grilo.

According to the minister, who says she is "very happy" with the resumption of classes, the governments of the 18 provinces have also been authorized by the Ministry of Finance to use anti-poverty funds for this purpose.

"The Ministry of Finance has authorized the provincial governments to use the anti-poverty funds to create conditions in schools and I believe that it will be possible to improve the conditions," she said this Thursday in Luanda.

Luísa Grilo spoke to journalists at the end of the ceremony to launch the distance learning platform of the Telecommunications Institute of Luanda (ITEL), an electronic office and a virtual library of the high school institution.

The classes in general education, especially for transition classes, and in the private education subsystem resumed last Monday, after six months of paralysis due to the covid-19, and the authorities contemplate in this return semi-presential classes.

The governor said the resumption of classes "is very good," with the presence of teachers and students in the educational institutions, having thanked the parents and guardians who "trusted" the authorities.

"And we are all working with more responsibility, because covid-19 is there and we need to control and protect ourselves because it is a challenge for everyone," she stressed.

He considered the platform presented by ITEL as a useful tool that will revolutionize education in the country: "In a digital age we cannot stay behind," he said.

"It's a very well accomplished and well conceived work, I congratulate the ITEL management for that, with proactive students who do what is asked of them and have all my support", he pointed out.

The ITEL initiative will be extended to other schools in the country, especially, explained Luisa Grilo, in those "where Internet access is faster".

She also said that there is a "commitment from the holder of executive power" to "quickly" make the Internet available to secondary schools, free of charge.
