Multitel: “We try to be three steps ahead of ourselves at all times”

There is no need to wait until December to declare “pandemic” as the word of the year 2020. Apart from the setbacks caused by the covid-19, Multitel has made this a year of reinvention. It presented its latest service - Digitotal Solution - and says it is ready for the privatization process that will take the company to the Angola Stock Exchange. In a joint interview, António Geirinhas, the company's general director and Kussi Bernardo, CTO, analyze the past, present and future of Multitel, which remains the biggest reference in Angolan telecommunications services.

VerAngola (VA) - The wait is long, but is Multitel still ready for privatization?

António Geirinhas (AG) - Multitel is not only ready, but has already started the process that will take the company to the Angolan stock exchange (BODIVA). In fact, the investment made in repositioning the company with the launch of new services, has the ultimate objective of meeting the new needs of the economy and our customers and thus creating very important future value for the company.

VA - The initial deadline indicated the course of the process in 2020. Was this timming maintained?

AG - The process that was defined in the Privatization Program for 2020 is being complied with and was started within the expected deadlines, through the articulation between shareholders, the management team and IGAPE.

VA - Do you already know in which molds it will unfold?

AG - The molds, methodology and sequence of activities are clearly defined in the Privatization Program and are up to now being strictly adhered to. The schedule with the final dates will be closed very soon.

VA - How do you reinvent a telecommunications company with more than 20 years of experience?

AG - Reinvents itself every day with a strong involvement of all employees, with a permanent creative capacity and investment in innovation and development. We have a young and experienced team capable of taking advantage of the space that Multitel gives everyone so they can make a difference. The UBUNTU philosophy is always present in our team ... "I will only be successful if everyone is successful".

VA - Is Multitel Digitotal Solution going to put the company one step ahead of the competition?

AG - The secret of the new panorama is no longer to look at the rear view mirror, to focus more on our customers and their needs, Multitel Digitotal Solution comes above all to strengthen this new way of acting and cooperating with partners and competition, in order to together we create an increasingly better experience and response to the needs of our valued customers.

VA - How can this renewed Multitel be a fundamental support for national companies?

Kussi Bernardo (KB) - During our twenty-two years of life as a company, we have always been very focused and invested to bring solutions to the national market that have enabled companies to be connected to their customers and partners with confidence, and in a world with changes our promise to Angolan companies is that they will be able to focus on their core business from scratch, and have Multitel Digitotal Solution addressing their technological issues in the 360º (telecommunications, Technologies and Information Systems), the which will naturally make them more efficient and with more productive and efficient environments.

VA - What about the telecommunications 'core business' (private networks, Internet)?

KB - This pandemic has shown that among other things our world, and Angola does not escape this reality, it has already absorbed telecommunications as an essential good, as well as oxygen for living beings, telecommunications are the air for the new social reality , economy and digital lifestyle that is being designed. We are aware of this role and the responsibility we have and we will clearly continue to ensure reliable connections with optical links, private networks, secure Internet and digital mobility.

VA - The impact of covid-19 has become an unavoidable theme. How did the company react?

KB - Multitel was not immune to the impact, but we did not fail to ensure the quality of our service, 24/7 remote assistance, we continued to invest to ensure that our customers were not isolated and disconnected during the transition process that is taking place and that took companies to their homes with the creation of new packages and modality of services. Although we are part of our business support teams working from home, we are still present with our customers, through our SIP lines, and we ensure the installation of conditions and the adoption of safer procedures for the health of the company. company as a whole. From a commercial point of view, Multitel launched a 30% discount campaign for Internet services for residential use to support the needs inherent in tele-work.

VA - Can launching a new service in pandemic times be advantageous?

KB - The recent experience of the past few months has shown that the responsibility of our company in turbulent times is to continue to understand the needs of our customers and partners, and to bring to the market the solutions necessary to make the customer experience more pleasant and less pandemic .

VA - There is more talk about tele-work, cloud, remote access. Are there conditions in Angola for this type of reality?

KB - Certainty gives us the Angolan market.
