Covid-19: Angola with 227 more cases and one death in the last 24 hours

Angola has registered 227 infections by the new coronavirus and one death in the last 24 hours, announced this Tuesday the responsible for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, totaling the country 9871 infected and 271 dead since the beginning of the pandemic.

The new cases were detected in the provinces of Luanda (155), Namibe (37), Malange (18), Benguela (14) and Huila (3), aged between 1 and 81 years, said the secretary of state during the daily epidemiological review to update data on covid-19.

Of these, 141 are male and 86 are female.

The deadly victim was 68 years old.

Secretary of State Franco Mufinda added that there are 117 more recoveries compared to the data presented on Monday, with 115 being registered in Luanda and the other two in Benguela.

Angola has a total of 9871 infected, with 3647 recovered, 271 deaths and 5356 active patients, including 14 in critical condition, 31 severe, 135 moderate and 417 mild.

In the last 24 hours, 1604 samples were processed, in a cumulative total of 148,883 processed samples.

In statements to Televisão Pública de Angola (TPA), Franco Mufinda confirmed the existence of infected among the demonstrators on trial for crimes of civil disobedience.

"We confirmed, in fact, that there is an infected person among the detainees and, in that group that accepted to test, there was a voluntary request" that asked to be tested, having also had a positive result in the covid-19 screening.

"We have at least two people on the 25th (...), and one of them is part of the detainees," pointed out the Secretary of State.

According to the same source, of the more than a hundred detainees, after Saturday's demonstration in Luanda, only 74 were tested to covid-19, with 30 of these refusing to do the test, claiming manipulation of the results.

In Africa, there are 41,609 confirmed deaths in more than 1.7 million people infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent pandemic statistics on the continent.

Angola is the African country with Portuguese as the official language with deaths due to covid-19: it registers 271 deaths and 9871 cases, followed by Cape Verde (94 deaths and 8472 cases), Mozambique (89 deaths and 12,273 cases), Equatorial Guinea (83 deaths and 5083 cases), Guinea-Bissau (41 deaths and 2413 cases) and São Tomé e Príncipe (15 deaths and 941 cases).

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 1.1 million deaths and more than 43.5 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.
