Africa with 201 more deaths and 6840 infected by covid-19 in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, Africa registered 201 more deaths due to covid-19, for a total of 38,597, with 1,584,484 infected, 6840 more, according to the latest pandemic data on the continent.

According to the African Union's Disease Control and Prevention Center (Africa CDC), in the past 24 hours, the number of recovered people in the organization's 55 member states was 7506, for a total of 1,312,128 since the start of the pandemic.

According to Africa CDC, Southern Africa continues to record the highest number of cases of infection and deaths, with 19,213 fatalities and 762,321 infected.

In South Africa alone, the continent's most affected country, 693,359 cases and 17,863 deaths are reported.

North Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, has 395,436 people infected and 12,088 dead and East Africa now accounts for 185,988 cases of infection and records 3,530 fatalities.

In the West African region, the number of infections is 181,970, with 2,668 fatalities and in Central Africa there are 58,769 cases and 1098 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 6062 deaths and 104,648 infected, and Morocco counts 2636 fatalities and 153,761 cases.

Algeria followed, with 53,068 infections and 2103 deaths.

Among the six most affected countries are Ethiopia, with 85,136 cases and 1301 fatalities, and Nigeria, with 60,430 infected and 1,115 dead.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique in number of cases.

Angola records 219 deaths and 6488 cases, followed by Equatorial Guinea (83 dead and 5066 cases), Cape Verde (75 dead and 7255 cases), Mozambique (72 dead and 10,088 cases), Guinea-Bissau (41 dead and 2389 cases) ) and São Tomé and Príncipe (15 dead and 928 cases).
