Police stop smuggling 2300 liters of fuel into Namibia

The national police prevented the leaving of 2300 liters of fuel, from the border of the province of Cunene, to the neighboring Republic of Namibia, a practice that has already resulted in the trial and conviction of 29 people this year.

According to the spokesman for the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) of Cunene, quartermaster José da Conceição, the fuel was seized during a micro police operation carried out along the border.

The official said that the fuel is purchased in a phased manner at fuel filling stations, with emphasis on the Pumangol pump in Santa Clara.

"And Angolan citizens and some Namibians, who are the potential buyers of this product, are involved in this type of crime," said the SIC spokesman, speaking to public radio, adding that the low cost of fuel in Angola encourages smuggling.
