Taking advantage of his visit to the US – where he is currently in order to participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York – João Lourenço met this Monday "with senior North American executives, as part of a roundtable discussion on business opportunities in Angola".
According to a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, the meeting was attended by businesspeople "who are familiar with the Angolan market, such as the leaders of Africell and Sun Africa, but also others who want to try their luck in the country and needed to hear the President's words of encouragement in person".
In this conversation with members of the American business elite, the head of state gave a lengthy description of the investment opportunities in the country.
"João Lourenço described at length the fields open to all types of initiatives for those who want to invest, ranging from the construction of oil refineries to the pharmaceutical industry, from railways to energy transport, among other areas of the economy", the note reads.
On the same day, the President of the Republic also held a courtesy meeting with António Guterres, Secretary General of the UN, held at the organization's headquarters.
On that occasion, the head of state signed the guest book, "in a formal gesture that celebrates a tradition of the headquarters of the largest multilateral organization of our time".
João Lourenço's agenda also included a meeting of leaders of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP).
"Held at the initiative of São Tomé and Príncipe, the country that holds the rotating presidency of the CPLP, the meeting served as an opportunity for the community's leaders to exchange views on various matters, against the backdrop of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York", states a statement from CIPRA.
Furthermore, on the same day, João Lourenço also chaired a meeting of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), as well as speaking at the Future Summit.
