"In our efforts to build a sustainable future for all, we must also make it an important point to step up the fight to eradicate poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty," said João Loureço, at the two-day event promoted by the United Nations and which ends this Monday.

For the Head of State, this fight is "the greatest global challenge" of our time and "an essential requirement for achieving sustainable development, food security, access to energy, digital connectivity, education, employment and social protection".

According to the President, common ambitions for the future cannot be achieved without placing "the poorest and most vulnerable people" at the center of actions and thus ensuring that "no human being or country is left behind".

In the area of peace and security, João Lourenço argued that it is necessary to move "towards an architecture of peace in which the principle of shared security is defended and protected by all, so that no citizen, State, region or geographical area feels protected at the expense of the insecurity of others".

Angola believes that it is not possible to build a balanced, safe and sustainable world "in which dignity and access to opportunities are an exclusive benefit of a small group of privileged people, to the detriment of the majority of the world's population", he stressed.

He also defended "the need to reach consensus on the reform of the global financial architecture and the architecture of global sovereign debt", which he considered "crucial" for the existence of "a fairer international financial system that is also capable of serving the interests of developing countries".

For the President, "the adoption of the 'Compact for the Future' represents, without a shadow of a doubt, a true turning point towards a more dynamic, more committed, more engaged and assertive approach to issues that are important to humanity".

The Future Summit, which began on Sunday at UN headquarters, included the adoption of three historic agreements that aim to build a better future for humanity: the "Compact for the Future", the "Global Digital Compact" and the "Declaration on Future Generations".

The meeting ends this Monday, on the eve of the start of the annual debate of the UN General Assembly, which will start on Tuesday and will have as a backdrop conflicts such as those in Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan, but also delays in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the climate crisis.
