Inflation at 30.53 percent in August with lowest monthly variation in 12 months

The inflation rate in the country registered a variation of 1.61 percent from July to August 2024, the lowest during the last twelve months, having stood at 30.53 percent, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The Consumer Price Index recorded an increase of 16.99 percentage points in August compared to the same period of the previous year (August 2023), but slowed down in monthly terms, following a trend that had already been seen in the previous three months, according to data from the INE.

The food and non-alcoholic beverages category contributed the most to the increase in the general price level, with 0.95 percentage points during the month of August, followed by the education category with 0.17 percentage points, health with 0.09 percentage points and miscellaneous goods and services with 0.08 percentage points.

In Luanda, inflation in August stood at 40.56 percent, an increase of 25.20 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year, registering a monthly slowdown.

The National Consumer Price Index in the capital recorded a variation of 1.63 percent between July and August 2024, a slowdown of 0.11 percentage points.

The education class recorded the largest price increase with 15.47 percent. Also noteworthy are the price increases seen in the alcoholic beverages and tobacco classes with 2.55 percent, hotels, cafes and restaurants with 2.05 percent and health with 2.04 percent.
