The data from the SEP Aggregate Report in 2023, presented by the chairwoman of the board of directors of the State Asset and Shareholding Management Institute (IGAPE), Vera Escórcio, indicate that, in 2022, net profits were around 779 billion kwanzas.

"We are increasingly seeing more companies with positive and also significant net profits, which are leading to a reduction in the negative effects we have on companies' profits", she said.

SEP's equity grew by 45 percent in 2023, reaching 13.1 billion kwanzas, and assets grew by 35 percent to 36.3 billion kwanzas.

Vera Escórcio stressed that inflation in 2023, in the order of 20 percent, and the variation of the kwanza against the US dollar, with a depreciation of the national currency by 65 percent, also influenced the companies' results.

The sectors that contributed most to the growth of assets in 2023 were the extractive industry, transport and storage, and electricity, with a 30 percent reduction in the performance of the financial and insurance sector, impacted by the lack of reporting of company accounts.

The president of IGAPE classified the performance of SEP companies in 2023 as "quite positive", taking into account the improvements recorded in terms of transparency and reporting of accounts without reservations. However, she said, a number of constraints persist, especially company debt, return on equity, and others.

According to the official, despite the substantial increase in both assets and equity, in terms of return to shareholders, there was "a deterioration", with several warnings being issued to correct this inflection in 2023.

The report indicates that only four sectors had positive results in terms of return to shareholders, "with very negative contributions from the agriculture, education, water and sanitation, construction and real estate services sectors".

Of the companies that contributed most to the results in 2023, Sonangol, the state-owned oil company, stands out, followed by Banco de Poupança e Crédito (BPC), PRODEL, UNITEL and others.

"In terms of net profit, Sonangol recorded a net profit of around 930 billion kwanzas in 2023 and BPC 116 billion kwanzas", she pointed out.

Regarding dividends received by the State, the president of IGAPE stated that there was "clear growth" in 2023, compared to the previous year, with around 6.5 billion kwanzas against 2.2 billion kwanzas in 2022.

With a positive evolution, the number of companies that distributed dividends increased from six companies in 2021 to 11 in 2022 and 16 in 2023.

However, there was a disproportion between the amount of dividends distributed between 2022 and 2023, despite the increase in aggregate net results of 17 percent and an increase in the number of companies that distributed dividends.

The president of IGAPE stressed that, despite the increase in the volume of dividends paid, the relationship between the dividends distributed and the net result for the year remains "very unfavorable for the State".
