Gross credit to the non-financial sector grew 25 percent in August

Gross credit to the non-financial sector grew 25 percent in August, compared to the same month in 2023, reaching 7.3 billion kwanzas, the National Bank of Angola (BNA) announced this Thursday.

The debt of the private sector (companies and individuals) represented the largest share (87.8 percent) and the remainder was debt of the public sector (public administration and public companies).

According to the BNA's statistical information note, the "stock of credit to the economy, in national currency, reached 5.1 trillion kwanzas in August, having registered an increase of 549.2 billion kwanzas compared to December 2023.

During this period, the debt of the non-financial public sector totaled 884.9 billion kwanzas, of which 62.2 percent related to the public administration and 37.8 percent to public companies.

According to the BNA, gross credit to the real sector of the economy totaled 1.35 trillion kwanzas in August, an increase of 24.18 billion kwanzas, "driven mainly by credit granted to the extractive industries subsector".

Total credit granted to promote the real sector reached 1.08 trillion kwanzas, representing 79.84 percent of total credit granted to this sector and 16.25 percent of the gross credit portfolio of the Angolan banking system, an increase of 11.88 percent compared to the same period last year.
