"It is very important for Angola to have qualified for the CAN, it is fundamental for the Angolan national team and for Angolan football, because it is important that countries are represented regularly in these competitions. This also serves as a lever for football, because it values the players who will be in this competition, in this way, Angolan football and the players to be better known abroad", he said.
The coach described as positive the work that has been carried out by his compatriot Pedro Gonçalves in charge of the Angolan football team.
"I was very pleased to see coach Pedro Gonçalves getting this qualification, I think he has done a very good job in the Angolan national team, despite some disputes, but that is normal with all selectors and coaches, around the world. I think that Pedro and his technical staff have done a very good job, in searching for new talents, in consolidating a game model, in launching organizational guidelines, and as a coach, he must always be cherished by the people" he said.
Despite Angola qualifying for the biggest national team competition on the African continent, Luís Gonçalves says there is still a lot of work ahead for the development of national football.
"For the future we need to continue working, continue to lay the foundations, plan, be more rigorous, look for talent, promote grassroots football and provide conditions for players, improve the fields across this country, provide more training for coaches, and work more seriously, with eyes focused on the future", he recommended.
The 34th edition of the African Football Cup of Nations will be played between January 13 and February 11, 2024, in Ivory Coast.
