Hermínio Joaquim Escórcio, who was a political prisoner of the former Portuguese Political Police (PIDE) in colonial times, was born in the province of Benguela on June 1, 1936.
The well-known nationalist linked to the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) participated in the national liberation process since 1958 and was part of the MPLA delegation that negotiated a truce with the Portuguese in the chanas of Liamege, Moxico province.
The former Angolan ambassador to Argentina was also director of protocol and heritage of the Presidency of the Republic, general director of the oil company Sonangol and honorary director of the Petro de Luanda football club.
