Angola asks the international community to avoid ambiguous signals that encourage coups d'état

The position was expressed, on Friday, by João Lourenço when speaking at the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the 77+China Group, which took place in Havana, the capital of Cuba.

João Lourenço highlighted that Africa has seen, "with great concern", the spread of terrorist actions and the emergence of coups d'état perpetrated by military personnel and which have deserved the condemnation of the African Union and the international community in general.

"It is important that this same international community does not give ambiguous signals regarding the seizure of power by unconstitutional means, and must refrain from attitudes and behaviors that discredit regional and continental organizations and that could be interpreted as encouraging coup plotters", urged the President.

According to the head of state, it is essential that emphasis is placed on the active and active role that the G-77 can play in creating a balanced view of contemporary political facts that generate tensions, which often degenerate into large-scale conflicts.

"Like what is happening in Eastern Europe and in relation to which we cannot be indifferent, as the need to respect the Charter of the United Nations and the norms of International Law has become imperative and to create an environment conducive to negotiations that lead to the definitive end of the war between Russia and Ukraine", he highlighted.

João Lourenço took the opportunity to congratulate the Government of Cuba for the fact that that Caribbean country had been chosen to preside over the Group of 77+China, expressing Angola's support, with the conviction that all together will make a significant contribution to strengthening of the organization.

"I would like to reiterate, from now on, our firm commitment to working with Cuba and the other Member States to reinforce the unity and solidarity of the Group, with the aim of achieving the objectives of collective defense of our interests and of promoting a common development agenda in the international arena", he stressed.

The head of state reiterated the "need for the immediate end of the embargo against Cuba, as it is unfair, inhumane, contrary to the principles of international trade and cooperation, the inalienable right of self-determination and the free choice of people over their destiny."
