Mobility agreement is one of the great achievements of the CPLP, says Brazilian ambassador to Angola

The mobility agreement between Portuguese-speaking countries "is one of the great recent achievements" of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), said the Brazilian ambassador in Luanda, highlighting the advances of this organization in recent years.

Rafael Vidal, who was speaking in Luanda at the commemorations of the bicentennial of Brazil's independence, addressed the strategic partnership between Brazil and Angola and praised the current Angolan presidency of the CPLP, which he considered "exemplary".

"The motto of the Angolan presidency, economic cooperation, could not be more timely", said the ambassador, pointing out the CPLP as "one of the most important initiatives of cultural and political integration in existence, a work of Brazilian and Portuguese diplomacy".

Among the recent achievements, he pointed out the Mobility Agreement that was approved at the XXVI Meeting of the Council of Ministers, held on July 16, 2021, in Luanda.

"Those who don't know are skeptical. But, for example, Portugal just announced last week that it should immediately grant visas to CPLP peoples after previous requirements are waived, differently from what it does, for example, with countries outside of the EU and the CPLP", said the diplomat.

However, he noted, "it's necessary to take it easy", as the agreements "need to be regulated, and that doesn't happen overnight".

"But they are the mandate for the facilities and preferences to come into force," he added.

The diplomat also highlighted the advances made by the CPLP in recent years, in which "cooperation has even become one of the strong points of integration".

"Today, there are numerous projects underway, ranging from good governance to technical cooperation," he noted.

He emphasized, on the other hand, that "Brazil's foreign policy with Africa is a State policy", stressing that Brasília's desire is "to be a secure and loyal partner of Angola in the joint efforts to overcome the challenges to economic growth and development , political and social".

"In this mission, Brazil is aware of its international responsibility, as no nation can prosper without all accompanying it", said the Brazilian ambassador.
